Today, I had some free time to clean the original Ghost cooler of the Ryzen 3 2200G that I replaced in the last episode. I wouldn't dare to do this with my own.
This article is limited to AMD "Ghost Stealth" cooler (no LED lights) and AMD "Ghost Spire" cooler (no LED lights). Details preview: Processor Cooling Solutions | "Ghost" Coolers | AMD
Preparation needed:
Towel, alcohol, hairdryer, a high-pressure showerhead (a strong faucet can also work), a pair of diligent hands, PH1 and PH0 screwdrivers (at least one PH1 is needed).
Disassembly#
I directly quoted the content from the last issue for the motherboard disassembly.
Open the two side panels of the case, use a screwdriver to unscrew the screws along the diagonal, and remove the cooler from the processor; open the back cover of the motherboard, and have someone hold the clips while I unscrew the diagonal screws.
Then, remove the cooler and unscrew the two screws under the raised AMD logo.
After removing the cover with the AMD logo, you will see the Cooler Master logo and four screws under the fan. Unscrew them to take off the aluminum cooler; take it to a showerhead with a rinsing function to clean it, then use a paper towel or towel to wipe the surface clean and remove the thermal paste, then place a towel underneath and use a hairdryer to dry it for a while until there are no water droplets, then let it air dry.
I plan to wipe the fan and case with a towel, paper towel, and alcohol, using my fingers to hold the blades and wipe each one... then wipe the dust off the exterior of the fan.
Installation#
The installation is similar.
Attach the four screws to the heat sink, then place the case with the logo underneath and press down with both hands until it fits (just make sure the two clips on the screws are secured), then add two small long screws.
Once the screws are in place, pull the clips outward so that they secure properly, then press the other side in while holding the secured clips.
On the motherboard, find something to press down on the clips at the back, or have someone hold it; apply thermal paste to the CPU and press the four spring screws into the clips while keeping the other side from lifting too much. Turn a few times to secure the cooler, then tighten the two screws and press the other two in as well, plug in the CPU fan power; wipe the machine clean.
