CatWrt-v22.8 firmware i225 network card fix

Last month's release of the OpenWrt soft router firmware had issues with the Intel i225 2.5G network card, such as poor performance, speed test failures, and disconnections. This update brings a fixed version along with long-standing features, and the durable firmware is stable and efficient for both main and side interfaces.

Based on Lean source code pulled from the repository on 2022-8-11!

You can also use the default settings without modification; if your network was previously on a different subnet, please modify it below.

Change Default IP#

Enter vi /etc/config/network in the OpenWrt terminal to modify the IP address in the option ipaddr line.

After completing, press Esc, then press the colon :, and type wq in the input box; it should display :wq

After returning, enter reboot to restart.

Change Default Password#

Change the password in the OpenWrt system - Management rights host password section or

Enter passwd in the terminal, input the password, and then confirm the password.

View the preview of the plugins selected during compilation Get (does not include plugin dependencies)

File location v22.8/x86/64

squashfs-combined is for traditional BIOS boot

squashfs-combined-efi is for UEFI boot

Generally, it is recommended to download squashfs-combined for virtual machines to choose traditional mode boot instead of EFI; if it cannot boot, please switch to the UEFI version.

For img files, it is recommended to use IMG writing tool or StarWind V2V Converter for installation.

The vmdk file is a virtual hard disk file for VMware virtual machines; conversion version.

The image file format does not support sharing. Rename the file in Aliyun Drive to .exe, and please rename it and remove the .exe part before use.

Upgrade#

As long as it is developed and compiled based on Lean source code, CatWrt can be used. In OpenWrt, go to System - Backup/Upgrade to flash the new firmware by selecting the downloaded img file to retain the configuration and upgrade to CatWrt.

When using system upgrades, please pay attention to several points:

Whether it is based on Lean source code
Whether the overlay partition has been expanded
If it is a virtual machine, whether the virtual hard disk format supports growth

If not, it may lead to failure to flash, configuration retention failure, or more strange issues. A fresh installation is recommended.

Disadvantages#

The stability of this v22.8 version remains, but the free storage space is quite limited at only 6M. In some extreme cases, configuration files may not be able to store too much. In general usage, there are no issues, but considering expanding the overlay partition in the next version, will it bring new compatibility issues? It is recommended to expand the overlay partition and reserve at least 200M for future system upgrades.
